Electric radiator for a bedroom or living room: which one?
In short
- Homegrade, the Brussels housing advice centre, recommends 19 to 20 °C in the living room and 16 °C in bedrooms. For the same floor area, a living room therefore needs more output.
- Manufacturer Thermor gives 1,000 to 1,500 W as a guide for a 10 to 15 m² room, and 1,500 to 2,000 W between 15 and 20 m², with standard insulation.
- In our range, electric wall radiators are rated 2,000 W, from €40.92 to €895.75 incl. VAT. The two vertical Vertex Plan models are 1,250 W and 1,500 W, at €661.17 and €712.46.
An electric radiator for a bedroom or living room is chosen first by floor area and target temperature. The living room is heated for longer and warmer, the bedroom mainly in the evening and at night, at a lower temperature. This guide matches those needs with the electric radiators in our range, with real outputs and prices.

Living room or bedroom: what changes for an electric radiator?
Temperature and heating time. Homegrade, the housing advice centre of the Brussels Region, recommends 19 to 20 °C in the living room and 16 °C in bedrooms. The living room is used during the day and evening: its radiator runs longer.
A bedroom is mainly heated before bedtime. Thermor advises lowering the thermostat during the day and programming the appliance to warm the room at bedtime. A programmable model does this automatically.
What electric radiator output for each floor area?
About 100 W per m², according to manufacturer Thermor, which notes that this is a very broad guide. It assumes a 2.50 m ceiling height and standard insulation. Here are its ranges by floor area, and the models in our range that match:
| Room floor area | Guide output (Thermor) | In our range |
|---|---|---|
| Under 10 m² | about 1,000 W or less | no room model below 1,250 W |
| 10 to 15 m² | 1,000 to 1,500 W | Vertex Plan 1,250 W or 1,500 W |
| 15 to 20 m² | 1,500 to 2,000 W | Vertex Plan 1,500 W or a 2,000 W wall model |
| Over 20 m² | 2,000 W or less per appliance | 2,000 W wall models, spread out in a large room |
A poorly insulated room, an attic room or a high ceiling needs more. For a calculation suited to your home, follow our French guide to calculating radiator output.
Which electric radiator for a living room?
A 2,000 W model for a room over 15 to 20 m², according to Thermor's guide. All our electric wall radiators have this output. They differ in controls, format and finish.
For a combined living and dining room, Thermor advises spreading the heat over several appliances rather than one. Two radiators at each end heat the room more evenly.

Which electric radiator for a bedroom?
A model with the right output that you can set precisely. In a 10 to 15 m² bedroom, our two vertical Vertex Plan radiators of 1,250 W and 1,500 W fall within Thermor's range. At 1800 mm high, they take up little wall width, useful next to a bed or wardrobe.
For bedrooms, Thermor recommends radiant or gentle heat models and advises against convectors, which stir up dust and heat in bursts. Our product pages do not always state the heating technology: ask in store before buying for a bedroom. How a radiant panel works is explained in our French glossary.
The same manufacturer notes that a bed placed too close to a radiator is bad for sleep. Leave some space between the headboard and the appliance.

Which electric radiators do we have for each room?

| Vertex Plan vertical electric radiator | 1800 x 600 mm | 1,500 W | not stated | €712.46 |
The nine 2,000 W wall models are first suited to living rooms and large rooms. The Vertex Plan models are aimed at bedrooms and medium rooms. The vertical format is covered in our article on the vertical radiator.
Is a 2,000 W radiator in a small bedroom a problem?
Not for comfort, but it is oversized. Its thermostat cuts the heat once the set temperature is reached. Thermor does note that an overpowered appliance costs more to buy with no real need. Below 10 m², this manufacturer suggests about 1,000 W or less, and our range has no room radiator below 1,250 W.
For a bathroom the choice is different: see our article on the bathroom radiator, hot water or electric. For heat that is stored and released slowly, our French guide to the storage radiator covers the topic.
Frequently asked questions about bedroom and living room electric radiators
What output for an electric radiator in a 12 m² bedroom?
Between 1,000 and 1,500 W according to manufacturer Thermor's guide, with standard insulation. In our range, the 1,250 W Vertex Plan falls within that range.
What type of electric radiator for a bedroom?
Thermor recommends radiant or gentle heat models and advises against convectors, which stir up dust. A programmable model warms the room just before bedtime.
What temperature for a bedroom at night?
16 °C in bedrooms, according to Homegrade, the Brussels housing advice centre. It recommends 19 to 20 °C in the living room.
Is a 2,000 W radiator enough for a 25 m² living room?
Thermor suggests 2,000 W or less for a room over 20 m², with standard insulation. For a large living and dining room, this manufacturer rather recommends several appliances.
Where should an electric radiator go in a bedroom?
Not too close to the bed: Thermor notes that a bed against the radiator is bad for sleep. A vertical model takes up little wall width and is easier to place.
