What size towel radiator: 40, 50 or 60 cm wide?
In short
- Our hot water towel radiators are 40, 50 or 60 cm wide and 80 cm to 1.80 m high. In the standard white range, output goes from 259 W (800 x 500 mm) to 877 W (1800 x 600 mm), according to the manufacturer's declaration of performance (EN 442 standard).
- Height matters more than width: at 50 cm wide, going from 800 to 1,800 mm multiplies output by 3. At 1,800 mm high, going from 40 to 60 cm only adds 31%.
- For a toilet or small bathroom, the smallest hot water model is 800 x 500 mm, 259 W, at €56.64 incl. VAT.
The right towel radiator size depends on three things: free wall space, the number of towels to dry and the heat output your bathroom needs. This guide lists every size of the towel radiators in our range, from 40 to 60 cm wide, with real output and prices.

What towel radiator sizes are there?
Three widths: 40, 50 and 60 cm for our hot water models. In height, the standard central connection range goes from 800 to 1,800 mm. Sizes in product titles read height x width: a 1200 x 500 is 1.20 m high and 50 cm wide.
Here is the standard white range with central connection, the most complete in our range, with output according to the manufacturer's declaration of performance, EN 442 standard (water at 75/65 °C, room at 20 °C), and price incl. VAT:
| Height | 40 cm wide | 50 cm wide | 60 cm wide |
|---|---|---|---|
| 800 mm | not offered | 259 W · €56.64 | not offered |
| 1000 mm | not offered | 366 W · €65.03 | 413 W · €64.61 |
| 1200 mm | 410 W* · €65.49 | 475 W · €69.68 | 536 W · €72.00 |
| 1400 mm | 502 W · €74.31 | 582 W · €81.69 | 657 W · €86.30 |
| 1600 mm | 589 W · €84.00 | 683 W · €88.61 | 771 W* · €98.55 |
| 1700 mm | not offered | 731 W · €90.46 | 825 W · €97.83 |
| 1800 mm | 670 W · €95.99 | 777 W · €100.61 | 877 W · €107.99 |
* Size available in another finish of the same range: matt black for the 1200 x 400, matt white for the 1600 x 600. For electric models, the usual sizes are 1200 x 500, 1600 x 500 and 1800 x 550 mm, up to 1,000 W, and 1,750 W for the model with a fan heater.
Some product titles show a different output, for example 944 W for the 1800 x 600 mm: we use the declaration of performance (Versa Group DoP BR2501.1), established under the EN 442 standard.

How does size change heat output?
Mostly through height. At 50 cm wide, the 800 mm gives 259 W and the 1,800 mm 777 W: 2.25 times taller, 3 times more output. Count about 50 W per 10 cm of height at this width.
Width matters less. At 1,800 mm high, the 40 cm gives 670 W, the 50 cm 777 W and the 60 cm 877 W. Width rises by 50%, output by 31%. To gain watts on a narrow wall, go taller rather than wider.
Do all models give the same heat at the same size?
No. The number and shape of the tubes change the output. In our range, a 1200 x 600 mm ranges from 378 W to 650 W depending on the model (declaration of performance, EN 442 standard):
| Size (H x W) | Model | Output | Price incl. VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1200 x 600 mm | Standard, central connection, white | 536 W | €72.00 |
| 1200 x 600 mm | Central connection, brushed gold | 378 W | €179.08 |
| 1200 x 600 mm | Design, central connection, black | 650 W | €143.02 |
| 1200 x 600 mm | Left or combined connection, white | 584 W | €175.70 |
| 1791 x 600 mm | Double, central connection, white | 1,530 W | €223.20 |
The brushed gold finish gives fewer watts than the standard white version: 378 W against 536 W. The “double” model reaches 1,530 W at 60 cm wide.
Which size for your wall space?
First measure the free height and width, allowing for sockets, switches, opening doors and the shower door. For a replacement, also note the distance between the two water pipes: the centre distance, smaller than the overall width. It is on the technical sheet, or can be checked in our shop with your measurements.
- Narrow wall (behind a door, between two units): a 40 cm model, 410 to 670 W depending on height.
- Standard bathroom wall: a 50 cm model, the width with the most heights in the standard range: seven, from 800 to 1,800 mm.
- Large wall, wide bath towels: a 60 cm model, from 413 W at 1,000 mm to 877 W at 1,800 mm in the standard version.
Which size for the number of towels?
Bigger, with more output. Thermor, a towel radiator manufacturer, notes that many towels smother the heat of the unit. It then advises a more powerful model with a larger frame, and adds 20 to 30% output for a small, crowded bathroom.
For a household of several people, a 1,600 or 1,800 mm high model offers more bars and more watts than a 1,200 mm of the same width: 683 W or 777 W against 475 W at 50 cm.
How much output to heat the bathroom?
It depends on floor area. Thermor's guide gives, as an indication for 21 to 22 °C, about 500 W up to 5 m², 750 to 900 W for 6 to 8 m² and 1,000 W for 9 to 10 m², noting that insulation and room volume change the result.
In our standard range: around 500 W, a 1200 x 500 (475 W) or a 1400 x 400 (502 W); from 750 to 900 W, a 1800 x 500 (777 W), a 1700 x 600 (825 W) or a 1800 x 600 (877 W).
For a hot water model, stated output assumes water at 75 °C under the EN 442 standard. With cooler water it drops sharply: the declaration of performance of our 1800 x 600 mm gives 877 W at 75/65/20 °C but 479 W at ΔT30, a regime close to 55/45/20 °C. In Stelrad's documentation, a 1181 x 495 mm Dahlia towel radiator goes from 541 W at 75/65/20 °C to 285 W at 55/45/20 °C. With a heat pump, size up and have your installer check it.
Which small towel radiator for a small bathroom or toilet?
A model 80 cm to 1.20 m high, or a rod rail. These are the smallest formats in our range:
| Model | Size | Output | Price incl. VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electric rod rail, single | 150 x 6.3 x 12.7 cm | 60 W | €123.42 |
| Electric rod rail, double | 150 x 16.8 x 12.7 cm | 120 W | €196.02 |
| Hot water, central connection, white | 800 x 500 mm | 259 W | €56.64 |
| Hot water, central connection, white | 1000 x 500 mm | 366 W | €65.03 |
| Hot water, central connection, matt black | 1200 x 400 mm | 410 W | €65.49 |
The 60 and 120 W rod rails dry and warm a towel, they do not heat the room. In a toilet or small shower room, the 800 x 500 mm (259 W) is the most compact hot water model.
